Why an Electric Search and Rescue Boat
Almost every advantage an electric driveline has is worth more on a rescue call than it is on a Sunday cruise. Silence is the biggest one: a crew that is not shouting over an outboard can hear a voice from shore, hear a whistle, and hear each other on a hand-held without cupping it. An electric search and rescue boat can idle into a debris field, hold station in current, and run a shoreline sweep without drowning out the one sound the crew is actually listening for.
The second advantage is the pump. There is no propeller and no lower unit, which means nothing spinning in the water beside a swimmer, a rope or a survivor being brought over the gunwale. Crews already train around prop strike risk. Removing the propeller removes the hazard rather than managing it.
An Electric Search and Rescue Boat for the Water Rescues Happen In
Flood response and river rescue rarely happen in clean, deep water. They happen in shallow, silty, debris-loaded channels over ground that was a field last week. A jet drive running in inches of water gets a crew into that. Instant torque gets the boat off the trailer and onto station without waiting on an engine to come up to speed, and there is no priming, no choke, and no cold-start ritual at three in the morning in November.
There is also no fuel aboard. No jerry cans in the truck, no spill risk beside a contaminated flood channel, and no fuelling stop mid-operation — the boat charges wherever the command post has power.
Developed With Operators, Not For Them
The Eddy is deliberately unfinished. We have a hull size, a mission profile and a driveline philosophy; we do not have a final deck layout, and we are not going to guess at one. Deck hardware, lighting, comms mounting, litter stowage, dive-ladder position and crew seating should be specified by people who have done the job in the dark and in the cold, not by an engineer with an opinion.

The Eddy will be built to Transport Canada Small Vessel Regulations and the ABYC E-11 and TE-4 electrical and electric-propulsion standards. Specifications on this page are a concept target, not a finished product sheet.
